  • Uterine Sarcoma - Treatment

    Treatment

Sarcomas are rare gynecological tumors. The management of the disease involves several specialties (surgical and medical) whose interventions must be coordinated.

This requires a multidisciplinary discussion adapted to this type of pathology and a presentation before national expert center committees. The presentation of the medical file in a multidisciplinary consultation meeting dedicated to sarcomatous pathology takes place on a weekly basis on the site of the Institut Curie.

Schematically, either the pelvic and abdominal disease is accessible to surgical treatment (possibility of complete resection) and this is performed first. Chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy can be proposed in a second step after having rediscussed the file with the definitive analyzes of the surgical specimen.
Either it is not possible to start with surgery and a treatment will be started first in order to reduce the volume of the tumor. A radiological and clinical reassessment will then be necessary in order to determine if it is possible to perform the surgery at a later stage. A new discussion of the patient's file will then be carried out in a multidisciplinary consultation meeting.

Uterine sarcomas are rare gynecological diseases requiring the use of teams trained in the surgical management of gynecological cancers. They require the intervention of several specialties such as medical oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, radiotherapists both during initial care and during patient follow-up and screening for possible relapses.
