Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women worldwide. There are approximately 570,000 new cases each year, and it is responsible for 310,000 deaths.

It mainly concerns developing countries, where the incidence (number of new cases per year) and mortality are the highest.
In industrialized countries, screening, improved living conditions and vaccination have led to a decrease in its frequency. However, it remains a problematic cancer because it affects young women who risk permanently keeping the sequelae of the treatments. Fertility preservation is also a frequent issue.

In France, there are 2,900 new cases annually (major decrease over 30 years) and 1,100 deaths.
